Strength is everything to the Hurks. Heirarchies are always changing, as they do not pertain to income, intelligence, etc. Constant brawls rearrange the social ladder on a daily basis. Another important thing to Hurks is survival skills. If a Hurk can steal a Turtle's egg, and make it out alive, he proves himself a powerful warrior. Usually, physical strength is the top thing, but some Hurks are dextrous and masters of weilding their Manat staffs.
To aid this description, look at Hurker. The Hurks' alltime leader, Hurker is over 15 feet tall, weighs around a ton, and has single handedly flipped a turtle on its back. While lower hurks are constantly being promoted or demoted, it doesn't appear that Hurker will have any competition for a while.
Heirarchies are usually established through unstructured fist fights, but for some of the higher ranking hurks, they are conducted in an arena, usually on the Flagship or on Hurk. Competitors may choose between fistfights, manat fights, head fights, or any combination of these, among others.
